This course is for aircrew members that will have to deploy lethal force from a DPS Helicopter. This course is designed to teach students the necessary skills needed to deploy lethal force from a DPS helicopter safely and effectively. The class will build on the fundamental elements of Crew Resource Management, Tactical Flight Officer operations, shooting, reloading and directing ground personnel to the threat.
The students will be able to describe and perform the requirements needed to qualify as an aerial use of force crew member.
The students will describe and demonstrate proper crew resource management techniques.
The students will identify and describe the safe actions on and around helicopter operations.
Students will demonstrate aircraft safety and the safety systems used for the aerial use of force program.
The students will be able to demonstrate proper weapons handling techniques and weapons safety during deployment.
The students will be able to demonstrate the proper weapons deployment and ability to operate the weapons in all conditions that DPS Aircraft operates.
Students will be able identify then demonstrate the proper storage, care and deployment of the laser.
Students will be able to identify then demonstrate the techniques needed to deploy a weapon from the DPS helicopter and hit the required and intended targets to qualify as an AUF crew member.
The student will be able to demonstrate the course of fire by completing the required qualifying course to be a DPS AUF crew.
The student will be able to describe and demonstrate how current state and federal law affects the aerial use of force deployment.
The student will be able to describe and demonstrate how DPS policy directs and guides the AUF program and its members.
The students will be able to describe and demonstrate all the models of the AUF program which will allow the best conclusion available.
The students should review the current training aides and current DPS Policy as it pertains to AUF. The students should be prepared for g-forces on the body while the helicopter is conducting the maneuvers required to deploy this technique.
Have a qualifying rifle score on a patrol rifle with their respective agency. The basic operation of night vision googles, the basic operation of the aiming laser for the rifle. The ability to operate the weapon system in the day and night without delay. Have above average understanding of rifle shooting. Completed phase one of Tactical Flight Officer training program.
